The Mayor's Essay Contest is an event that celebrates the talent and creativity of our city's young residents. This contest is open to students of all backgrounds and ages, from elementary to high school, and provides them with an opportunity to express their thoughts, ideas, and perspectives on an annual theme.
The Black History Month theme for 2024 is African Americans and the Arts. Essays should be centered around that theme.
The deadline to submit an essay for judging is Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11:59pm.
Students in grades 4-12 are eligible to submit an essay. Students must submit original work.
Essays should be saved and submitted as a PDF or a Microsoft Word Document.
Entries must be submitted as a PDF or Microsoft Word document to sonja@sonjaabrown.com. There is no cost to enter the contest.
All contest entries become the property of Mayor Sonja A. Brown.
